A Day's Passing.

The golden rays of evening sky,
Slowly fade into midnight.
Softly creeping beneath the clouds,
Giving man reprieve from light.
The cooling night, the still faced moon,
Brings us solace from our plights,
In the distant sky it calms us,
Restoring our muted minds.

Peering deep into the distance,
Our hearts may drift in dark tides.
Staring out beyond our feelings,
Our thoughts find nowhere to hide.
In that barren, silver farness,
In the depth we seek to find
The rejoinder to our questions,
That play out within our minds.

Somewhere lost within the darkness,
Illumination we find,
Soft and gentle, cold, yet blessing
Lightning pathways through our mind.
Night! we call you, come to save us,
Sweep away our restless days.
Rising gently, fading slowly,
Guide us sweetly from our ways.

Our daily ruler, blazing noon,
This ardent sun lights our gloom.
The lambent sphere reigns o'er our days,
Revealing colors in bloom.
Sun's sweet ardor, I pray favor
For the things I find precious,
And the people I most treasure,
May our hearts become gracious.

It holds a vigil over us,
Beneath it's rule we falter.
Within it's gaze we are blinded,
Until our eyes are altered.
It's light is telling for us all,
A guide among our lost hearts.
A painful brightness to reveal
Parts of life we should depart.

By it's radiance we are given
Life and love and all between.
A tyrant, it is always,
And of parched death, it is queen.
Hide yourself, we beg you to go,
Relent your rule o'er life,
If you persist, we surely die;
Retreat! save us from our strife.

As our passionate sun recedes,
The cold, distant moon steps through.
Destined apart, never to meet
One appears and one withdrew.
The king and queen from dawn to dusk
Rule o'er us forever.
One may not stand without the other,
In us they live together.
